The Cape Town city region has many renewable energy options, namely solar, wind, current and geothermal. Its distance from coal fields and power stations, together with the need to reduce carbon emissions, make the region the natural choice to pioneer and use a palette of renewable options. This could embrace becoming a global hub for research into affordable low-carbon energy solutions.
Furthermore, the region is renowned for its natural beauty. The challenge is to protect and even enhance this in the face of population and business growth. The Cape Winelands is an example of how business and beauty beneficially co-exist.
